Per the request of Miss Tera Demerchant , an
inspection was conducted at 2 : 00 p .m. on January 16 , 1997
at the above mentioned address .
The purpose of my inspection at the time was to
review the condition of the apartment for damages to
walls , ceilings , floors ect . At the time of my inspection
the apartment had no damage, in fact was in remarkable
condition.
After returning to my office and checking the files
on said property, I discovered that said property is a
legal two family dwelling and the 3rd floor apartment is
an illegal apartment per State Building Codes and per City
of Salem Zoning Ordinance .
For you to legalize this apartment , you must file an
application to the Citv of Salem Board of Appeals
requesting to enlarge a two ( 2 ) family dwelling into a
three ( 30 family dwelling. This dwelling unit should not
be rented out until approval is granted by the Board of
Appeals .
Please contact this office upon receipt of this
letter and inform us as to your course of action you will
be taking in this matter . Failure to do so will result in
legal action being taken .
