OBSERVATIONS:
Footing excavation was initiated for isolated interior footings within the Southwest limits of
proposed building #2 (see sketch). The trench was excavated to design elevation utilizing the Deere 450
excavator equipped with a flat cutting edge (flared teeth) to minimize sub grade disturbance. Ground
improvements were recently completed in this area by installing GCC deep foundation elements. The area
was over excavated a minimum of 6" below design BOF elevation to provide a cushion/base of material
between the elements and the footing. All GCC elements were carefully located and exposed during
excavation. The sub grade soil in this area is fill and varies in consistency from recently placed
processed gravel to urban loamy fill with organic silt, ash, gravel, slag, wood Etc. The sub grade was
generally dry and firm. A 6" - 12" thick layer of ¾" or 2" processed gravel was placed at each
location. The gravel was moisture conditioned and compacted employing several passes of coverage
utilizing the heavy plate compactor generally exhibiting stable/firm conditions.
Installation of drainage utilities was performed at the south side and in between buildings 1&2.
The trench was carried down to design elevation utilizing the Deere 380 excavator. DMH 4, 5 and 6 were
installed. The sub grade was previously prepared using crushed stone and gravel to accommodate the
structures. The structures were connected using the respective HDPE piping (18 or 24" diameter). The
piping was bedded ¾ up the pipe in ¾" crushed stone. The remaining bedding/backfill material used is
the same material generated during excavation generally consisting of F - C gravel and sand, trace silt
placing. 12 - 18" thick lifts were placed and graded. Each lift was compacted employing several passes
of coverage utilizing the heavy Wacker plate compactor exhibiting stable/firm conditions.
