Dear Mr. Venuti
I recently observed that the diagonal braces supporting the roof of your building
which replaced the 3 story open porch that has been removed have bowed and appear to be
over stressed.
This department approved a Building Permit application from a previous owner on 3/2/08
to remove the porch and replace it with diagonal braces but were never given the
opportunity to inspect the work. No engineered drawings were submitted with the
application.
You are hereby ordered to have a Structural Engineer inspect the existing building,
specifically the support members and connection detail at the exterior wall at the location
of the former porch and to arrange with this office an inspection of the common areas of
the building as required by 80 CMR Section 106 (State Building Code)
This inspection and report must be completed on or before August 9,2010; failure to do so
will be construed as violation of the State Building Code and will result in a criminal
complaint at District Court.
You have a right to appeal this order.to the State Board of Building Regulations and
Standards in Boston.

Due to neighborhood complaints and a request from the Salem Fire Department, I
accompanied Lt. Charles Lattulipe on an inspection of your garages on 80 Palmer
Street. This inspection took place on Wednesday, May 12, 1999.
Lt. Latttulipe was able to contact you and we met on site Thursday, May 13, 1999. The
result of this meeting was a confirmation of your tenant running an automobile repair
business at that location.
This is a violation of the City of Salem Zoning Ordinance permitted uses in an R-3 zone.
Please notify your tenant to cease operating this business within thirty (30) days upon
receipt of this letter.
Failure to comply will result in legal action being taken against you in Salem District
Court.
