Dear Mr. Arroyo:
Due to a complaint received through the Neighborhood Improvement
Committee hot line, I conducted an inspection of the above mentioned
property and the following violations were found:
1. House has no proper number marking.
2. Exterior stairs at front entrance must be repaired and made safe.
3. Smoke detectors in front and rear halls must be connected.
4. Walls must be patched in halls.
5. Replace light fixtures in stairwells (existing out of date) .
6. Remove stove from hall.
7. Remove debris in open room on third (3) floor.
8. Repair window at third floor hall (glass ready to fall out) .
9. Remove debris from first floor porch.
10. Side walk side entrance fill holes in concrete.
Please notify this department upon receipt of this letter as to your
course of action to rectify these violations. Failure to do so will result
in legal action being taken against you.

101.4 Referenced Standards: Where differences occur between provisions of this
code and referenced standards, the provisions of this code shall apply.
SECTION 102.0 ORDINARY REPAIRS
102.1 General: Except as provided in Section 113.1, a permit shall not be required
for ordinary repairs to buildings and structures.
SECTION 103.0 INSTALLATION OF SERVICE EQUIPMENT
103.1 General: When the installation, extension, alteration or repair of an
elevator, moving stairway, mechanical equipment, refrigeration, air conditioning or
ventilating apparatus, plumbing, gas piping, electric wiring, heating system or any
other equipment is specifically controlled by the provisions of this code or the
approved rules, it shall be unlawful to use such equipment until a certificate of
approval has been issued therefor by the building official or other agency having
jurisdiction.
SECTION 104.0 MAINTENANCE
104.1 General: All buildings and structures and all parts thereof, both existing and
new, shall be maintained in a safe and sanitary condition. All service equipment,
means of egress, devices and safeguards which are required by this code in a
building or structure, or which were required by a previous statute in a building or
structure, when erected, altered or repaired, shall be maintained in good working
order.
104.2 Owner responsibility: The owner, as defined in Article 2, shall be
responsible for the safe and sanitary maintenance of the building or structure and
its exitway facilities at all times, unless otherwise specifically provided in this code.

Dear Sir:
I am the owner of property situated at 30 Park
Street, Salem, Mass. having sold property located at
32 Park Street in August, "1953. At that time, .a new
lot line was drawn as shown on attached plan. The
establishment of this new lot line did not provide
distances as required by Building Ordinance, Sec. 52.
In view of the fact that the buildings already existed
prior to the establishment of the zoning. ordinances
and have for many years, and that the establishment
of this new `lot line did not resultin any physical
change on the property, ,I respectfully request an
exception to the Building Ordinance in order to allow
me to sell No. 30 Park Street.
The non-conforming conditions are:
As to Lot "A" :
1. The rear yard is of a smaller area than required
by Sec. 52 of the Building . Ordinances of the
City of Salem.
2. The rear or westerly side of said building is less
than five feet from the rear property line.
3 • The northerly side of said building is less than
five feet from the northerly property line.
As to Lot "B" :
1. The rear or westerly side of said building is less
than five feet from the rear property line.

property situated at #30 and #32 Park St. Salem, Mass.. Mrs
Bouchard proposes to sell +32 Park St. Lot +►A" on plan hereto
attachedg which will necessitate the establishment of a new lot
line. (The approximate old lot Line on the northerly side is
shown in red pencil on said plan.) The establishment of this
