The cast-in-place concrete retaining walls 'nave not undergone excessive deflection or rotation . The cold-joint at the edge of the retaining wall and the building ' s foundation does not affect the structural integrity of the retaining wall provided that the foundation wall is not intended as a restraint to the retaining wail . Where the joints occur in exterior wells , the joints should be properly sealed to prevent water infiltration and damage . In general , the stone retaining walls appear sufficient to act as gravity walls to support the earth tack-fill . As per your office , all the stones in the walls will be mortared to prevent the removal of individual stones by children. The walls will also receive a concrete cap . Both the mortaring and capping , in our opinion, are necessary and should be performed after the winter season , Just prior to this work , the walls should be checked for loose and overhanging stones and bowing and be repaired as required . The cold-joint at the edge of the retaining wall and the building ' s foundation does not affect the structural intsgr ; 'v o` the retaining wall provided that the foundation wall is nct intended as a restraint to the rEtaining wall , This joint should , in anv case , be rr.oerly seared to c-svent water infiltration and camaae . CROCKETT/TROLLA February 22 , 19e9 Pg . 2 The cold joints in the cast-in-place concrete basement walls do not appear to impede their structural integrity provided that the walls ' reinforcing is properly doweled into its abutments . Where the joints occur in exterior walls , the joints should be properly sealed to prevent water infiltration and damage . In general , the stone retaining walls appear sufficient to act as gravity walls to supoort the earth back-fill . As per your office , all the stones in the walls will be mortared to prevent the removal of individual stones by children. The wells will also receive a concrete cap . Both the mortarinc and capping , in our opinion, are necessary and should be performed after the winter season , lust prior to this work , the walls should be checked for loose and overhanging stones and bowing and be repaired as required .
