Gentlemen: Re: 16-18 North Street,. corner of Lynde Street

Ttith reference to your letter of February 7, 1946
regarding the proposed erection of a building at the corner
of North and Lynde Streets, Salem, Mass. , please be advised
that this area is zoned for business. The use of this
property for retail business purposes is permitted.
However, this location is within. the fire limits
and any building that may be erected for business purposes ;
must be of first or second class construction, as no wooden
buildings are allowed -within the time Idistrtet except a one
or.two family dwelling.
For your further information, Z wish to call your
attention to Section 96 of the Building Ordinances which may
have some bearing on this particular case:
Section 96. Whenever the inspector receives notice of the
intention to erect any building or alter the external walls
of any building within the fire limits, within ten feet of
the line of any street, he shall forth-lith nibtSfy the city
council thereof, in order that any encroachment or other
injury to the street may be prevented, and so that steps may
be taken to Aiden or improve such streets if deemed desirable.
