(639-0067) for construction of the mid-rise apartments and townhouses at 10-16 Norman Street, Salem, for my review. As a result of this review the following items have been found to be incorrect on the plans or are required to permit approval by the Salem Fire Prevention Bureau. New plans shall be submitted with the corrections on same. Plan E-2: Basement plan: 1 . Add a smoke detector M/S type at base of stairs off foyer. (Basic rule is a smoke detector at base of each stairway .) 2. Location of Master fire alarm box to be shown on plan and approved as to location by Mr. John Condon- City Electrician. A blank door shall be used on this master box. 3. One smoke detector M/S type, to be placed in Community room space. 4. Rental Spaces #1 and #2 will require a smoke detector, M/S type on fire alarm system. 5. Rental space #3 will require two smoke detectors M/S type on the system. 6. Exterior audio/visual horn shall be provided at main entry area. This will serve as the reg6ired alarm device for the standpipe valve notification. 7. One smoke detector M/S type to be placed in the bulk storage area. 8. Remove manual pull station from community room. Leave alarm device. 9. Place manual fire alarm pull station and audio/visual device in common corridor, opposite door to rental space #2. 10. Remove manual fire alarm pull station from small corridor area. 11 . Valve and at the inspectors test point at top of standpipe. 3. A flow switch is required at` the O.S.&Y. Valve area. This shall also be added to the electrical plan as a zone. 4. Sign shall be posted on the door to O.S .&Y. Valve room per section 1200.5 of SBC. 5. Water motor gong or electric bell shall be provided above the F.D. Connection for standpipe notification. 6. One sprinkler head off the standpipe riser shall be provided for trash room and over the compactor unit. 7. Note: Trash room and Compactor area as shown on plan MR-1 does not agree with area shown on plan P-1 . Lavatories are shown on Plans as different locations . The trash room shall be constructed in accordance with provisions of 527CMR10.01 (7) (c) . This shall be drawn on the plan for stamped approval . Trash room does not show up on the 4" scale plan either. 8. A raised lettered sign shall be provided at the Fire Dept. Connection for the standpipe system. 9• Note on each plan that each outlet on standpipe shall have an approved 212" N.S.T. valve outlet with a reducing cap to 1}" I .P.T. capped and chained to valve. 10. Designation FHV appears on the basement plan and the first floor plan??? This does not appear in legend. They may be for FVC which does appear in legend. 11 . A hearing on, this Petition was held on March 11, 1981 with the following Board Members present: Douglas Hopper, Chairman; Messrs. Hacker, Piemonte, Luzinski and Feeherry. Notices of the hearing were sent to abutters and others and a notice of the hearing was published in the Salem Evening News on February 25, and March 4, . 1981, .in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 40A. The Petitioner has requested a variance for the property described above to construct no more than 72 residential condominium units at the site. A variance is required because the building is in a B-3 district where the proposed use is prohibited without. a variance. The Board of Appeals, after consideration of the evidence presented at the public hearing and after viewing the property makes the following findings of fact: 1. The proposed use of the property is supported by the Salem.Redevelopment Authority. 2. The proposed use of the property is consistent with the Salem Uniform Renewal Plan. 3. The proposed use of the property will enhance the entire Heritage Plaza West Urban Renewal Area. 4. .The petitioner and his architec.tare well knownthroughout the northeast for the overall quality of their work. On the basis of the above findings of fact, and the evidence presented at the public hearing, the Board of Appeals concludes as follows: 1. The property in question is unique.
