Dear Lee,
I have enclosed a copy of the Fire Escape Inspection Notice.
In Massachusetts, a professional certification of all Fire Escapes is required every 5 years
(780CMR 1001.3.2).
The Fire Escape at 22 New Derby Street is currently out-of-service, and propped-up by an
arrangement of scaffolding. Please ensure that the Fire Escape is repaired and returned to
service as quickly as possible.
The contractor who makes the repairs must be licensed in Massachusetts. The Fire Escape must
also be certified for structural adequacy before the repair will be considered complete, and before
the Fire Escape can be returned to service.
Please notify this department as soon as the repairs and certification have been completed.
Failure to resolve the issues cited above will be construed as non-compliance and may result in the
issue of municipal tickets and fines as well as further enforcement actions.
If you feel you are aggrieved by this order,you have the right to appeal to the Massachusetts Board
of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS) at One Ashburton Place/Boston/MA.
