Dear Ms. Martling:
If the above mentioned property is damaged by fire and over 50% of the floor space is
lost, than the owner of the property will need to apply with the City of Salem Zoning
Board of Appeals to reconstruct the house due to it being non-conforming. If they obtain
a Variance for a two family then they would be able to rebuild as a two family. If they did
not rebuild within two years, than the use would be considered abandon and would lose
the ability to use the property as a two family.
