Dear Owner,
I recently attended a meeting that was set up with Councilor O,Keefe,Present were Councilor
O,keefe, Representatives of Salem State College ,Jason Silva and Lt Preczewski ,Salem P.D.
The meeting was to discuss the concerns relating to visibility for vehicles and pedestrians at the
intersection of Raymond Road and Loring Avenue. The hedges, maintained on your
property,violate City of salem ordinance 7-7.Visibility at Intersections. "In order to provide
unobstructed visibility at intersections,no sign, fence, wall or hedge or other stricture or planting
of more than three feet above the established street grade shall be erected,placed or maintained.
within the triangular area formed by the intersecting street lines and a straight line joining said
street lines at points which are 25 feet distant from the point of intersection,measured along said
street lines." This is a little confusing but basically one needs to measure back from the
intersection of the the curb 25 feet on both Loring Avenue and on.Raymond Road. If a mark
were placed at the two points, a line connecting the two points would dictate the triangular area
that cannot have hedges more than three feet high.
You are directed to comply with this Ordinance within 30 days of this notice. If you feel you are
aggrieved by this Ordinance or my interpretation, your Appeal is to the Salem Zoning Board of
Appeals. Failure to address this issue will result in daily fines. If you have any questions, please
contact me directly.

Dear Mr. Valaskatis:
Due to a complaint received through the Neighborhood Improvement
Committee hot line, I conducted an inspection of the above mentioned
property and the following violations were found:
1. You must take all means of precaution to keep water that is being
pumped out of basement from freezing on sidewalks and at street
gutter where pedestrians are crossing. Areas must be kept sanded or
salted.
2. Rear porch must be cleaned from all debris.
Please notify this department upon receipt of this letter as to your
course of action to rectify these violations. Failure to do so will result in
legal action being taken against you.
