Codes and/or City Ordinances:
The following are State Building Code Issues (780 CMR):
No Fire Separation between dwelling units, Section 713.1
No Egress window in bedroom, Section 1010.4
No required second means of Egress, Section 1010.2
Uncovered electrical boxes, (CMR 52 7)
No Smoke Alarms or Carbon Monoxide Detectors, 901.2
Living Room and Kitchen lack required windows for light and ventilation,
1206.1 and 1208.1
Violation of the City of Salem Code of Ordinances, regarding the creation of an
illegal third unit, in a two family dwelling
Said violations must begin to be corrected, repaired, and/or brought into
compliance within 2 days of your receipt of this notice. Failure to do so may result in
further actions being brought against you, up to and including the filing of complaints at
District Court.

Dear Mr Trembley
I apologize for your office having to be bothered by this
matter. Unfortunately these complaints where not addressed to
my attention first. Attached please find a written warning to
the occupants of the subject garages. In addition to the
written warning each occupant was contacted for discussion.
Each denies that they are conducting any type of business on
the premises and that auto maintenance is limited to their
own personnel property.
I will keep a closer watch on the matter. Once again I
apologize for your having to deal with this matter.

Please find the attached letter which cites several
complaints regarding the garage space you occupy at the rear
of 30 Loring Ave. As described when you entered into an
agreement to occupy this space, the property is located in a
R-2 residential district and use for any business on premises
is not premitted. In the future, any evidence supporting the
violation of this zoning code, will result in eviction from
the subject property.
If you would like to discuss this matter further please
feel free to contact us, otherwise your cooperation in this
matter is greatly appreciated.
