JOINT CONVENTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND SCHOOL COMMITTEE
A Joint Convention of the City Council and School Committee was held in City
Council Chambers on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. for the purpose of
electing a School Committee member to fill a vacancy in the School Committee caused by
the resignation of Kevin R. Carr, Jr. and other matters pertaining to this election. Notice of
this meeting was posted on December 9, 2011 at 11:36 A.M.
All Councillors and Kevin Carr of the School Committee was recorded as absent..
Council President Jerry L. Ryan presided.
Councillor O’Keefe moved that the nominations be opened.
Motion seconded by Councillor McCarthy and School Committee member James Fleming.
Mr. Fleming and Dr. Walsh of the School Committee declared 6 candidates be nominated
Derek Barcikowski, Lisa Lavoie, Sean O’Brien, Kenneth Sawicki, Francis Vigeant and
Heather Leclerc who was not present.
Mr. Fleming stated there be a limit of 2 minutes for introductions.
Mr. Fleming amended the nomination to delete Heather Leclerc. The motion was adopted.
Councillor O’Keefe moved that the nominations be closed and proceed with the election. It
was seconded by Dr. Walsh.
The motion to close the nominations and proceed with the election was adopted by a roll
call vote of 17 yeas, 0 nays, 1 absent. Councillor Furey, Lovely, McCarthy, O’Keefe,
Pelletier, Pinto, Prevey, Ronan, Ryan, Sargent and Sosnowski and School Committee
members Nate Bryant, Dr. Crane, James Fleming, Dr. Brendan Walsh, Kerri Martin and
Mayor Driscoll were recorded as voting in the affirmative. Kevin Carr was recorded as
absent.

9 votes for Lisa Lavoie
6 votes for Sean O’Brien
2 votes for Francis Vigeant
Council President Ryan declared Lisa Lavoie as an elected member of the School
Committee.
Councillor O’Keefe moved immediate reconsideration in the hopes it would not prevail.
Reconsideration was denied.
Councillor McCarthy moved suspension of the rules to allow Ms. Lavoie to speak. There
was no objection.
On the motion of Councillor O’Keefe the meeting was adjourned at 7:20 P.M
