MINUTES - Special - 12/9/2009 292 CITY OF SALEM DECEMBER 9, 2009 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL A Special Meeting of the City Council was held in City Council Chambers on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 6:30 P.M. for the purpose of a venue for the Inauguration. Notice of this meeting was posted on December 4, 2009 at 2:08 P.M. Councillor O’Keefe and Councillor Lovely were recorded as absent. Councillor Pinto had to leave early. Council President Paul Prevey presided. #695 - COMMUNICATION FROM THE MAYOR A letter from Mayor Kimberley Driscoll asking the Council to reconsider prior actions pertaining to the site for the upcoming Inauguration Ceremony to be held on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 10:00 AM. Councillor Prevey requested and received unanimous consent for suspension of the rules to allow Mr. Silva the Mayors Aid to speak. Councillor Prevey, Pinto, Ryan and McCarthy stated that they wanted to use Old Town Hall in not City Hall. Councillor Veno stated the ideal room is the City Council Chamber but Old Town Hall is a reasonable solution. Councillor Pelletier stated that he will follow the will of the Council. Councillor Sargent stated the Council Chamber is his first choice it was always used for inauguration but his second choice is Old Town Hall. Councillor Sosnowski made motion that Inauguration be held at Old Town Hall. #696 – LOCATION OF INAUGURATIONI Councillor Prevey introduced the following Order which was adopted by a roll call vote of 9 yeas, 0 nays, 2 absent. Councillors Veno, Sosnowski, Sargent, Ryan, Pinto, Pelletier, McCarthy and Furey were recorded as voting in the affirmative. Councillors O’Keefe and Lovely were recorded as absent. 292 293 CITY OF SALEM DECEMBER 9, 2009 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL ORDERED: That the location for the City Organizational meeting set by the Charter for the first Monday in January at 10:00 A.M. be located at Old Town Hall. Councillor Prevey moved immediate reconsideration in the hopes it would not prevail. Reconsideration was denied. On the motion of Councillor Sosnowski the meeting adjourned at 7:50 P.M.
