PROPOSAL:
The proposed signage includes one 11" x 10' wall sign made from MDO Plywood
with an off-white background and red letters. The signage will be the same size as
Liberty Tax and the sign maker will match the same background approved for this
sign.
RECOMMENDATION:
At the September 24, 2003 meeting of the DRB, the members recommended
approval of the proposal as submitted.

Dear Mr. Kerr:
Thank you for your submittal to the Salem Redevelopment Authority (SRA) for the review
of your proposal to illuminate the existing sign at 157 Washington Street with a small flood
light above the sign,illuminating down.
As you know, your project was reviewed by the Design Review Board (DRB) at their
meeting on Wednesday, November 19, 2003. At this meeting, the DRB requested that you
modify your proposal to include:
• Two flood lights, illuminating down on to the sign, that are equidistant and painted
the same color as the trim in those areas seen from the street; and
• Paint a border along the sign edge that is the same color as the lettering on the sign.
Please modify your proposal and submit seven (7) color copies of the changes by Friday,
November 28 at 12:00 noon. If you submit the required materials by this date and your
proposal adheres to the recommendations made by the DRB, your application will be
reviewed by the SRA at their meeting on December 10, 2003 at 6:00pm. You are not
required to attend this meeting.
Please note that you may not begin work on the proposed project until you receive final
approval by the SRA.

SRA DECISION:
At their meeting on July 11, 2007, the SRA voted to approve the DRB Recommendation for
the proposed facade alterations at 157-89 Washington Street.
RECOMMENDATION:
At their meeting on June 27, 2007, the DRB recommended approval of the proposed
facade alterations with the condition that the new entry doorway is exactly the same
as the two existing entry doors ways. The DRB recommended approval of the paint
color samples submitted by the applicant at the meeting and dated June 27, 2007.
PROPOSAL:

There will be two (2) 2 1/2" — 3" caliper London Plane Trees (Platanus
Occidentalis "Bloodgood'� planted at 191 Washington Street during our fall
planting. The London Plane has already been used in the downtown area and is
very hardy to this area. In years to come it will provide tourists and residents
with shade in the summer and a windscreen during the winter months, The
branching structure along with the exfoliating bark makes this an interesting
species to be planted in this area.
