DESIGN REVIEW BOARD RECOMMENDATION
Former New England Telephone Building (35 St. Peters Street)
PROPOSAL:
The applicant presented plans and specifications to the Design Review Board for
building improvements at 35 St. Peters Street. The proposal included the
replacement of all existing windows with white aluminum, double-hung (8 over 8)
insulated windows; construction of a new white wood entrance portico along Federal
Street; new concrete walkway with 6"granite curbing; new granite post and chain
fence; and new white aluminum entry door and transom.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Design Review Board recommended approval of the application with the
condition that all new windows and doors include exterior muntins.

Alterations to be performed at 35 StTeter Street
Replace existing 8 over 8 steel double hung uninsulated windows with white
aluminum double hung 8 over 8 insulated windows. Windows to be the same
as windows in enclosed hand out noting that 8 over 8 will be windows of
choice. .
Install new colonial type entrance in middle of Federal Street side of
building. Remove window and replace with enterance.Door to be insulated
colonial style commercial white aluminum. Structure to be of wood with
possible fiberglass columns depending on availability. Structure to be
painted white in color. Would like approval for solid faced balcony as
enclosed print or four inch round balusters if able to find in proper size and
proportion. Walk ways and curbs to be of granite as per enclosed drawing.

Both leaves of this hinge are punched and countersunk so they can be mortised into the
door stile and frame. They are specially swaged to provide 1/16" clearance between
leaves when parallel. Overall dimension is 4" x 4 1/2" when open. Button tips and plugs
are standard. Five knuckle ball bearings are packed with grease to assure a quiet long C O
life hinge. US26D or Bronze finish.

Use of intermediate pivots is recommeneded for offset hung doors over 3-0" in width or
over 7-0" in height with 1/4" glass, and on all doors with glazing over 1/4" in thickness.
The P 751 is also used in heavy traffic areas or as a substitute for top pivot in concealed
closer applications. Cast aluminum leaves are fully mortised into frame and door stile

Electric Strike
Provides remote electrical control for doors equipped with P 1421 latchlocks, anc
lever or knob-set operators. Electrical actuation unlocks the strike jaw, releasing
the latchbolt, and allcwing the door to be opened without operating the latch.
Requires 24 volt AC current. Transformer and rela-ed wiring are not included.
