On April 23, 2003, the Design Review Board gave a positive recommendation for a
proposed handicap tamp located at 99 Washington Street. The approved drawings are
entitled"Partial Plan and Elevation Proposed Handicap Ramp" dated March 14,2003.
The proposal consists of a new handicap ramp and related accessibility improvements
constructed along the front elevation of the Salem Probate Court. The new ramp will
include a granite veneer and a decorative black iron railing.

Enclosed please find the followings in compliance to your requirement of obtaining an approval pertaining
to work proposed at the above referenced project.
• Application for SRA Design Approval
• Photographs off the relevant areas of the building
• Site Plan
• Scaled Building Elevations showing proposed work
• Basic Details
• 7 copies of each are being enclosed.
As explained in the drawings, the scope of work at this stage is to provide a scheme for the handicapped
access into the lobby of the Salem Probate Court.
After considerations of many alternatives, we have arrived at a final design,which is most conducive to
existing conditions. This design, which integrates a ramp and associated railing, in our opinion will have
the least adverse affect on the historic qualities of the building.
The lobby shall be accessed through raised landing and existing vestibule, thus causing no disruption to
the existing lobby. New front entry doors in compliance with handicapped requirements shall be provided
for access to the lobby.
We have made every effort with our design to create the least disruption to the historic character of this
building. As such we request for a"Design Approval' decision from your office. Please review the
enclosed documents at your earliest convenience and if there are any questions please do not hesitate to
