GUERTIN ARCHITECT May 12, 2003 Trustees of Essex Condominiums Essex Street Salem, MA 01970 Dear Trustees: We have been commissioned to prepare plans and specifications for the Proposed New Windows for the first floor offices at Essex Condominiums. The offices currently do not have operable windows except for very small awning type windows at the front and rear of the offices. These windows do not provide enough open area for proper ventilation of the space. We propose installing new operable window units at five locations facing the courtyard to the rear of the offices. The new windows would consist of two new double-hung aluminum windows approximately 4'-9" wide by 4'-10" high. The new windows would be located to provide much needed ventilation for the offices as well as aligning with existing double-hung windows at the upper floors, maintaining the architectural integrity of the building, refer to attached drawings. The existing glazing would be removed from the aluminum frames at the bays illustrated in the sketch and the new windows would be installed directly in the existing frames, sealed all around the perimeter. We have recently completed a similar project for the Medford Housing Authority, installing a new aluminum casement window within an existing aluminum frame providing access to a flat roof below.
