As you may recall, the bracket for the Barking Cat sign had to be modified with a black box
extension due to the size of the sign and the cornice on the building. To rectify this matter,
the business owner painted the black box to match the color of the building. The owner is
asking that the DRB vote to approve this slight modification to the bracket, as shown in the
attached photo.

Dear Mr.McKee:
As we discussed, the bracket on which your hanging sign is attached is not what was approved by
the Salem Redevelopment Authority(SRA), as per their decision on June 9, 2004.
The Design Review Board (DRB) reviewed the modification to your approved SRA decision and
determined that it was not in keeping with the original approved sign package and asked that you
submit a proposal to rectify the modification. They suggested redesigning the bracket so that it is
less intrusive than what was installed and is able to accommodate the molding and weight of the
sign.
Please have your sign maker contact me so that we can begin working to meet the DRB request.
Furthermore, I am enclosing a schedule of the upcoming DRB meetings and the submittal
deadlines. Once we have a proposal it will be brought to the DRB for their review and approval.

The approved sign for The Barking Cat was installed last week. Apparently, the approved
bracket was not fabricated to accommodate the existing molding on the building. Therefore,
the sign installer placed a black box on the building to clear the molding and allow for the
sign to hang properly. Attached are photographs of this adjustment.
At the meeting on Wednesday, the members will be asked to make a recommendation on
approval of this adjustment to the bracket.

PROPOSAL:
The proposal includes the installation of a 42" x 42" sign constructed of carved
wood relief graphics, painted and hung on a decorative wrought iron bracket. The
sign will be lit with white spotlights on the building aimed directly at the sign. In
addition, the owner is proposing attaching vinyl letters to the windows with the
telephone number,logo and website for the business.
