RECOMMENDATION:
At their meeting on May 24,2006, the DRB recommended approval of the proposed
sign lighting with the condition that the conduit coming out from the building and
attached to the bracket must be painted black.
PROPOSAL:
The proposal includes the installation of lighting the hanging sign approved along
Derby Street. The revised lighting plan shows more detail of how the light will be
installed.

Attached please fund information regarding proposed public art at New Civilitea, 318 Derby
Street. The owner would like approval to replace one of her tables/chairs with public art,
similar to what is pictured in the attached photo. The piece will not obstruct the public way
and will be maintained by the store owner.

Dear Tania:
We are working with artists developing a design for a piece of public art in the shape of a
teapot that we would like to install on the sidewalk in front of our store,New Civilitea.
We are limiting the design of the artwork to the dimensions no larger than 30"wide x 60"
height x 18" deep.
I have enclosed a photo of the ice sculpture we commissioned during Salem So Sweet in
February to give you an idea what a piece of public artwork would look like in front of
our store. Our intent is to place the new sculpture in this same spot in front of our
window. Last year we were granted permission to put out 4 tables and 8 chairs in front of
our windows. We intend on taking away I table and 2 chairs and replacing them with
this art piece.
We would like to ask for permission to replace the table and chairs with this new piece of
artwork. The sculpture will fit within the footprint of the table, which is 36", and the 2
chairs. If you require any further information please contact me.
