DRB Recommendation At its meeting on May 22, 2013 the DRB recommended approval of the proposed trellis structure at 300 Derby Street as submitted. Proposal for May 22 DRB Meeting The proposal calls for the installation of a 28'-10" x 29' trellis structure within the existing outdoor seating area. It will be seated on concrete pads with planters between sets of posts that will rise out of wooden pilasters. All of the wood on the proposed structure will be red cedar. The purpose of the Trellis Structure is to provide shade for the outdoor patio area as well as to create an appealing site within the context of the historical meaning of city of Salem. By creating this 28'-10"'x 29'-0' trellis structure, the owner will not only provide shade on hot summer days, but also attract more customers. The structure will be seated on concrete pads within constrains of the setbacks given by the Zoning Ordinance. Posts will be standing on wooden pilasters fastened to the concrete pads holding up the red cedar rafters. Planters will be located between the posts to add additional natural element of the site. All of the proposed structure will be built out of red cedar that sustains all weather conditions with ease. The color of the wood will remain natural and it can be painted or stained over time if desired. Staff Comment The revised proposal appears to address the conditions above; however, the proposal has not been reviewed by the DRB member yet.
