288 DERBY STREET- BAMBOLINA - 288 Derby St Bambolina jI&L Salem ® Redevelopment Authority Salem Redevelopment Authority Decision May 13, 2015 288 Derby Street (Bambolina): Discussion and vote on: 1. Proposed signage; and 2. Proposed installation of steel chimney and kitchen exhaust hood on roof SRA Decision At its meeting on May 13, 2015, the SRA voted unanimously to approve the proposed signage and installation of rooftop elements. The sign's design has a revised date of 4/27/15 on it, and the drawings for the rooftop elements are dated 4/14/15. The proposed chimney shall be painted black. Proposal The applicant proposes to erect one building sign and two rooftop elements as noted in the information below, and in the packet of materials. The applicant has agreed to both of the Design Review Board's recommendations; a revised design for the sign reflecting an increased space between the words "crafted" and "wood" is enclosed. Recommendation At its meeting on April 22, 2015, the Design Review Board voted unanimously (6-0) to recommend approval of the proposed building signage as shown on a presented design dated 4/8/15, and for the proposed installation of a steel chimney and exhaust hood as shown in presented plans dated 4/14/15, at 288 Derby Street (Bambolina). The recommendations provided the following conditions: 1. That the space between the words "crafted" and "wood" be increased, or that a centered dot be placed in between the two words. 2. That the steel chimney be painted black. Proposal (signage) Bambolina is a new restaurant planning to open in Salem in June of 2015 in a space that will be subdivided from the Salem Wax Museum. The applicant proposes erecting a building sign above the entrance on Derby Street as shown in the enclosed materials. The 20 sq/ft. sign will be carved into a textured HDU sign panel and lit with existing fixtures on either side of where the sign will be installed. Proposal (steel chimney and exhaust hood) The applicant is also before the Board to seek permission for the installation of both a 12" wide steel chimney that will rise 2' above the higher roofline, as well as an Salem ® Redevelopment Authority exhaust hood that will rise 27 and '/2" off the higher roof. The applicant indicates that the kitchen exhaust will be set back 16' from the front of the higher roof; hence it will not be viewable from the public way. The applicant indicates that the installation of these two rooftop elements is necessary in order to provide ventilation for a wood-Fred pizza oven that will be a feature of the restaurant. Lastly, the applicant notes that a new 3'x7' six panel wood door with an accompanying 2'x6' recessed wood panel will be installed on the Liberty Street elevation of the building. sSalem ® Redevelopment Authority Salem Redevelopment Authority Proposal May 13, 2015 2.88 Derby Street (Bambolina): Discussion and vote on: 1. The front two thirds of the first floor of the building is being converted from being the Wax Museum Gift Shop into two tenant spaces — 1000 square feet for the Gift Shop, and 2700 square feet for a new restaurant. The restaurant features a wood fired pizza oven that requires an all fuel metal chimney through the building's lower roof and a new hood exhaust through its upper roof, both as located on the drawings. A new second means of egress onto Liberty Street is also required. The proposal is to use an existing 5' wide window opening with the sill dropped to floor and sidewalk level to enable the installation of a new wood egress door, also as shown on the drawings. Please feel free to address any questions to me for any needed clarification prior to the DRB meeting. Sincerely, 0 Richard Griffin project architect
