Within this section there are two locations where maintenance work is proposed as follows: Location No.1 — Route 107 NB at Sta. 35+30 and Location No.2 at Sta. 39+80. See attached locus map, plan and photographs for the respective locations. Project Description: The project will consist of maintenance repairs to an existing damaged drainage systems on a 2-way 2-lane section of Highland Avenue. This area is characterized as mostly commercially developed with a medium to heavy traffic flow. The repairs at Location No. 1 will include rebuilding a catch basin within the high speed lane and its connection to an existing drain manhole in a median. The repairs at Location No. 2 will include rebuilding a drainage system from a drain manhole in a median to headwall on a steep slope embankment, just northeasterly of the Forest River crossing. The wash out area that has occurred on the embankment as a result of failed drainage system will be stabilized. Below is a detailed description of the work proposed at each location. Location No.l —Route 107 NB at Sta. 35+30 Maintenance activities to repair the existing drainage system within the high speed lane and median will include the following: • Excavate to remove collapsed drainage pipe and debris inside the basin • Replace pipe with 4-ft long section of a new 12-in diameter corrugated high density polyethylene pipe • Rebuild catch basin and its outflow connection • Place and compact gravel borrow • Reinstall granite edging • Repave roadway and median surface Location No.2—Route 107 NB at Sta. 39+80 Maintenance activities to repair the existing drainage system and stabilize slope embankment include the following: • Repair unstable granite stone headwall on the embankment • Excavate to remove failed concrete drain pipe and to install approximately 48-ft long section of a new 15-in diameter corrugated high density polyethylene pipe from drain manhole in the median to headwall on the embankment • Place and compact gravel borrow within excavated area. Loam and seed slope embankment following new pipe installation • Place rip rap at pipe outlet for erosion control • Reconnect catch basin in the breakdown lane to a new drain pipe • Place and compact gravel borrow • Reinstall granite edging and curb • Repave roadway, sidewalk and median surface L SCOPE OF WORK CONT. Salem, Route 107 NB at MM 8.2 Drainage Maintenance Repair All work will be confined within state layout. Sedimentation control barriers will be installed at areas of environmental concern and shall be maintained throughout the length of the project. The Contractor will remove and properly dispose of offsite all accumulated silt and debris from the excavation and repair work. Upon work completion, the Contractor will remove and dispose of siltation barriers. During the execution of work under this contract, the contractor will remain in contact with Resident Engineer and/or the District Environmental Engineer.
