As you are aware,schools are subject to random inspections through the Fire Prevention Office. 1 asked one of the janitorial staff,Mr. Tony Mento, to accompany me on this inspection. I was unable to do a complete inspection of the entire building. This was due to the condition of many of the classrooms and hallways, i-e.the excessive amount of combustible decorations and artwork; much of which was located too close to exit doorways. Also,many of these exit doors were either partially or fully obstructed. All doorways are to remain free and clear of any obstructions at all times. A re inspection of these areas will be conducted,and in conjunction with the Building Department, a full school inspection will be done. I left for Principal La-Valle a copy of the school code for combustible decorations as well as an open letter to all teachers,principals, and administrators. Full compliance with all applicable codes and standards will be expected. The Fire PAAvention Office looks forward to the anticipated cooperation of al! involved. All furniture in classrooms and hallways must be tagged code compliant for educational use buildings, no residential use furniture,wall,or window decorations are allowed.
