FOR A VARIANCE FOR 50 WINTER ISLAND ROAD, SALE
A hearing on this petition was held December 5, 198Cgilth thfi following Board
Members present: James Hacker, Chairman; Messrs. , Charngs, Luzinski and Associate
Member Bencal. Notice of the hearing was sent to abutters and others and notices
of the hearing were properly published in the Salem Evening News in accordance
with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 40A.
Petitioners are requesting a Variance for a broader use of the Hangar in this
R-1 District.
In a letter to the Board of Appeal dated December 5, 1984 from Gary M. Moore,
Manager of Winter Island, the Winter Island Commission requested this petition
be allowed to withdraw without prejudice.
The Zoning Board of Appeal by a vote of 5-0 allowed this petition to be
Withdrawn Without Prejudice.

Re: Winter Island Coast Guard Hanger
Dear Mr. Chairman:
Please be advised I am in receipt of a request for a legal
opinion from Councillor Nowak on whether or not the variance/
special permit pending before your board from the Winter Island
Commission is appropriate in view of the deed restrictions per-
taining to Winter Island. It is my understanding that the matter
has been scheduled for a hearing on December 5, 1984 .
Accordingly, I respectfully ask your board to defer action
on the requested variance/special permit until I have had an op-
portunity to respond to Councillor Nowak.

the above listed name and address, the Salem Fire Department requests the

The Salem Fire Department has no objection to the granting of a Variance for
a broader use of the Hanger at Winter Island.
This bureau d0es .ask that part of the requirement, if granted the variance, of
the Board of Appeal is that any and all tenants of Winter Island be in communica-
tion with the Fire Department as to their operation and storage of combustibles
and/or flammables.
