Board of Appeal Maureen Carr 10 Manning Street Salem,MA 01970 Ms. Nina Cohen Board of Appeals 129 Washington Street 3`d floor Salem,MA 01970 October 14, 2005 Dear Ms.Cohen, Unfortunately,I am out of town through October 23, 2005 so I am unable to be present at the meeting regarding the petition submitted by Janet Green of 72 Orchard Street. I am writing in opposition to the transformation of the garage to a single unit. Our neighborhood is already quite congested and this change would only add to that density. The integrity of the neighborhood is at risk here and granting this petition may set a precedent for others to do the same. I also take issue with the wording of the legal notice. Many of my neighbors assumed that Ms. Green was simply enlarging her garage. I feel that the wording should have included information that stated that this would change from a garage to a dwelling. Thank you in advance for your consideration to my concerns. If at a later date there will be further discussion I will attend. Sincerely, Maureen Carr Ia . Janet Greene 72 Orchard Street ` Salem,Massachusetts 01970 (978-744-3750) June 5,2005 To the Zoning Board of the City of Salem, I respectfully submit this letter with my request for variance to the Board of Appeal for a building permit for plans to replace my garage, which is in serious state of decay, with a single level coach house type structure which would provide an efficiency and private living space for my adult daughter. All utilities are designed to be connected to the fust floor unit of our two family home. We expect our daughter to be living with us for the foreseeable future, and at 30 years old we would like to provide for her more independent living space than the one room she has now and has been living in for 8 years. Below are names and signatures of neighbors who support our request for variance to build this structure, understanding that our house will remain a two family home and the structure planned will improve the appearance of the property with minimal change in the size/space relationships of this new structure to the main house(when compared to the present decaying garage). Of note, our garage roof leaks, the wood frame has carpenter ants, and the structure has been treated twice in 2004 for rats. Thank you for your careful consideration of my request.
