RE: zoning violation- 53 Lawrence Street
Dear Owner,
This Department has been forwarded a copy of a Police report that confirms four unrelated individuals living in
a single unit building. Per the definition of MGL 140/section 22- four or individuals constitutes a rooming
house. This is a violation of Salem zoning ordinance table 3.0 which requires a Special Permit for a Rooming
House.This is also a violation of MGL as well as the State Building Code and Fire Laws.
Per the Mass State Building Code 780 CMR section R 104.6 an Inspection of the premise is required. The
inspection is scheduled for Weds Nov 10 at ten A.M. All areas of the building are to be available for
inspection .
If you feel you are aggrieved by this order, your Appeal is to the Board of Buildings
,Regulations and Standards in Boston.

Should such structure be destroyed by any means to an extent of more than 50% of its
replacement cost or more than 50% of the floor area at the time of destruction, it shall
not be reconstructed except in conformity with the provisions of the Salem Zoning
