BOX 865 SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS 01970 / PHONE (508) 745-0799 May 5, 1995 Mr. Stephen Touchette Chairman, Board of Appeals One Salem Green Salem, MA 01970 Dear Mr. Touchette: I am writing to you regarding the property at 115 Federal Street which is owned by Dr. & Mrs. Irving Ingraham whose petition for a variance is before you on May 17, 1995. 1 am unable to attend the meeting because I am a member of the Salem Historical Commission which meets at the same time. I would like to have my support for their petition read into your record. Our historic district, like many throughout the country, is comprised of ancient buildings with many additions and changes which occur throughout time. I firmly believe in the adaptation of old structures for modern usage. I have seen their plans for the addition to the Jacob Sanderson House of 1793 and feel that the changes are in sympathy with the main structure. I would appreciate your favorable review of their petition and thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, John H. Casey President
