Dear Mr. Munroe:
We represent Gregory and Mary Miller who are the Buyers in a contract
to purchase the real estate known as 21 Laurel Street, Salem,
Massachusetts. This property is currently used, and being marketed
as, a two (2) family dwelling. Upon inspection of the Salem Zoning
By-laws and Map, we determined that this property is in the B-4 Zoning
District. This Zoning District appears to prohibit any use for
residential purposes. It is our understanding that this property was
in existence and used as a two (2) family prior to the Zone change
which now prohibits said use.
Would you be so kind as to confirm our understanding that the use of
21 Laurel Street, Salem as a two (2) family residence is a lawful use
because it is a pre-existing, non-conforming use, by signing the
enclosed copy of this letter where indicated and returning it in the
stamped, self-addressed envelope?
