MINUTES - Special - 1/8/2007 CITY OF SALEM 1 JANUARY 8, 2007 SPECIAL ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL A Special Meeting of the City Council was held in the Council Chamber on Monday, January 8, 2007 at 6.00 P.M. for the purpose of organizing city government for the year 2007. Notice of this meeting was posted on January 5, 2007 at 8.59 P.M. All Councillors were present. City Clerk Cheryl A. LaPointe called the meeting to order, and Councillor Leonard F. O'Leary, Senior Member, assumed the Chair. Acting President O'Leary called upon Councillors Sosnowski and O'Keefe to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Acting President O'Leary thanked out-going President Pelletier, and presented him with a gift. #1 - ELECTION OF PRESIDENT Councillor Pelletier introduced the following Order, which was adopted. Ordered: That the City Council proceed to organize for 2007 by the election of a president. Councillor Prevey nominated Councillor. Councillor Furey seconded the nomination. Councillor Sargent moved that nominations be closed. It was so voted. Councillor Veno was elected President of the City Council for the year 2007 by a unanimous roll call vote of 11 Councillors voting for Councillor Veno. Acting President O'Leary appointed Councillors O'Keefe and Corchado to escort newly elected President Veno to the rostrum. President Veno thanked the City Council for electing him President. 2 CITY OF SALEM JANUARY 8, 2007 SPECIAL ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL #2 - RULES AND REGULATIONS Councillor Blair introduced the following order, which was adopted. ORDERED: That the rules and regulations of the City Council for the year 2006 be adopted as the rules and regulations for the year 2007, and that the same be suspended for this meeting. #3 - MAYOR ADDRESS COUNCIL Councillor Lovely introduced the following Order, which was adopted. ORDERED: That her Honor the Mayor be invited to address the members of the City Council at this session. President Veno then introduced Mayor Driscoll, who gave her State of the City Address, and thanked her at the close of her address.
