JANUARY 2, 2006
INAUGURATION
A Special Meeting of the City Council was held in the Council Chamber on
Monday, January 2, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. for the purpose of organizing city government
for the year 2006.
All Councillors were present.
Presentation of the Colors by the Police and Fire Department Color Guard.
City Clerk Cheryl A. LaPointe called the meeting to order, and Councillor
Leonard F. O'Leary, Senior Member, assumed the Chair.
Senior Member O'Leary then called upon Salem Girls Scouts to lead us in the
Pledge of Allegiance.
Senior Member O'Leary then called upon Beverly Shanahan of the Salem Boys
and Girls Club who sang the National Anthem.
Senior Member O'Leary called upon Father George Dufour for the invocation.
Senior Member O'Leary called upon City Clerk Cheryl A. LaPointe to administer
the oath of office to Mayor Kimberley Driscoll.
City Clerk Cheryl A. LaPointe then administered the oath of office to the
members of the City Council.
#1 - ELECTION OF PRESIDENT
Councillor Lovely introduced the following Order, which was adopted.
Ordered: That the City Council proceed to organize for 2006 by the election of a
president.
Councillor Sosnowski nominated Councillor Pelletier.
Councillor Veno seconded the nomination.
Councillor O'Keefe moved that nominations be closed. It was so voted.
Councillor Jean M. Pelletier was elected President of the City Council for the year
2006 by a roll call vote of 10 votes for Councillor Pelletier, and 1 member voting present.
Councillors Bencal, Corchado, Furey, Lovely, O'Keefe, O'Leary, Prevey, Sargent,
Sosnowski, and Veno were recorded as voting in the affirmative. Councillor Pelletier
was recorded as voting present.

Newly elected President Pelletier took the rostrum.
President Pelletier thanked the City Council for electing him President.
#2 - RULES AND REGULATIONS
Councillor O'Leary introduced the following order, which was adopted.
ORDERED: That the rules and regulations of the City Council for the year 2005 be
adopted as the rules and regulations for the year 2006, and that the same be suspended for
this meeting.
Following the organizational meeting of the School Committee, the City Council
reconvened.
#3 -MAYOR ADDRESS COUNCIL
Councillor Sargent introduced the following Order, which was adopted.
ORDERED: That her Honor the Mayor be invited to address the members of the City
Council at this session.
President Pelletier then introduced Mayor Driscoll, who gave her Inaugural
Address. Following the Mayor's inaugural address, President Pelletier thanked her for
her extremely informative address.
At this time, President Pelletier introduced the Council on Aging Goldentones,
who sang the musical selections "Let There Be Peace on Earth" and "God Bless
America".
President Pelletier thanked the Goldentones for their musical selections.
President Pelletier then called upon Reverend Philip Wyman for Benediction.
President Pelletier called for the retiring of the Colors.

Following Benediction, President Pelletier called upon Councillor Corchado, who
moved that the meeting be adjourned at 11:00 A.M. It was so voted.
