Sirs:
As a result of the notice received concerning the Board of Appeal hearing for
the above listed name and address, the Salem Fire' Department requests the
following items to be placed on record:
The Salem Fire Deaprtment has no objection to the granting of a Variance to
allow a three family dwelling. The present two family dwelling is currently in
compliance relative to the installation of automatic smoke detectors.
If the Variance is granted the present system will be changed to a hardwired
system, and.all laws, Ordinances, and Regulations of both the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts and the City of Salem, pertaining to fire safety, are to be ad-
hered to.

This office has received several complaints regarding the overgrown hedges on your
property.
The hedges are obstructing the sidewalk which violates the City of Salem Zoning
Ordinance 38-9.
Please trim back the hedge within seven (7) days upon receipt of this letter. Failure to do'
so will result in legal action being taken in Salem District Court.

Dear Ms. Gebauer:
At the request of the tenants, I did an inspection of 357 Lafayette Street and found the
following violations;
I. The first and second floor porches are unsafe.
2. Water leaking through lights in hall.
3. Smoke detectors don't work in hall.
4. Windowsill rotted out.
5. Water leaks in bedroom I" floor.
6. 2"d floor den—water leaks.
7. Gas grill can't stay on 2"d floor porch.
8. Basement dryer needs to be vented.
9. Toilet in basement needs to be removed.
10. Third floor apartment is illegal.
The 3`d floor apartment must be vacated within thirty (30) days.
If you feel aggrieved by the building issues your appeal would be directed to the BBRS,
State Building Code Appeals Board.
Failure to respond to these orders within fifteen (15) days will result in legal action being
taken against you in Salem District Court.

Dear. Mr. Linskey:
Thursday, November 5, 1981, you and your personnel opened the street at 357 Lafayette
Street for the purpose of renewing a water service.
This work was performed without benefit of an opening permit or an inspection of the
work, all in direct violation of City Ordinances. In addition, the sidewalk, after seven
days, has not-been repaired. This repair must be made in accordance with D.P.W. regulations.
I have advised you personally that you have previously violated City Ordinances regarding
opening permits and I herewith notify you that this present violation is the last,one that
will be tolerated. The next such violation will result in revocation of your Contractor's
and Drainlayer's license, and your bonding company shall be so notified.
