Robert Turner of Fire Prevention, I inspected your property located at 248 Lafayette Street, and known as Fairfield Inn, for possible safety code violations. The results of the inspection are as follows: 1. There is no valid certificate of inspection on file with the Building Inspector as required by Mass. General Law, specifically Section 108.5.1 of the Mass. State Building Code, nor has there been one since August 1, 1978. That certificate was issued for eleven (11) rooms not the nineteen (19) currently in use. 2. There is no building permit on file with the Building Inspector to divide the basement into rooms for rent. 3. Two (2) acceptable means of egress, as required by the Mass. State Building Code, are not provided for all rooms on each level. Doors designated as egress doors were found locked and apparently occupied by lodgers. 4. Smoke detectors are not provided within the rooms as required. 5. Emergency lighting was not operable on the second level and was lacking in the number of heads required to properly illuminate the areas required. 6. The basement rooms are not considered habitable due to lack of proper ceiling height as required by both sanitary and building code. c 7. The basement boiler room is not within a one ('1) hour rated inclosure, as required. In view of the hazards these violation pose to the public safety and welfare, I must insist that you contact me within forty-eight (48) hours of your receipt of this notice with plans to make the necessary corrections.
