Background A solar photovoltaic system was planned for installation on building#17A of the Princeton Properties.A structural inspection and analysis was performed on the building to determine if it had adequate collateral load capacity for the additional dead and live loads from the solar system.Though much of the supporting structure was found to be adequate, certain rafters and supporting beams were below the code requirements.Designs and drawings were developed for upgrades to the deficient members by a licensed Massachusetts Professional Engineer(Chris Vreeland)and submitted with the building permit for the solar system installation. These drawings were S-17A,5-17.1A, SD-1 and SD-2. Field Inspection These upgrades to the structure were performed in conjunction, just prior to,the installation of the mounting system for the solar modules. Several field inspections were performed by Chris Vreeland including: the original inspection to determine structural capacity, preliminary inspection with the installing contractor to review the upgrades,a post installation inspection to confirm that the upgrades were performed relative to the design plans and that the solar mounting locations were onto the appropriate structural members. The results of this inspection concluded that photovoltaic system was found to be installed per the submitted design drawings. It is my professional opinion, based on my review and inspection, the submitted design and the installation of the solar photovoltaic system meets the minimum criteria of the Massachusetts State Building Code,780 CMR Seventh Edition. Background A solar photovoltaic system was planned for installation on building#3 of the Princeton Properties.A structural inspection and analysis was performed on the building to determine if it had adequate collateral load capacity for the additional dead and live loads from the solar system.Though much of the supporting structure was found to be adequate, certain rafters and supporting beams were below the code requirements.Designs and drawings were developed for upgrades to the deficient members by a licensed Massachusetts Professional Engineer(Chris Vreeland)and submitted with the building permit for the solar system installation. These drawings were S-3,S-3.1,SD-1 and SD-2.
