21 HAZEL STREET - BUILDING INSPECTIONF q/ piqze-i • e MARSHALL STRAUSS May 16, 2005 Thomas St. Pierre Building Commissioner City of Salem 120 Washington Street Salem MA 01970 RE: 21 Hazel Street Dear Mr. St. Pierre: I enclose two agreements which address the first and second floor apartments at 21 Hazel Street. Both agreements will be filed with the Housing Court on May 17, 2005. As we discussed, the occupants of the third floor apartment are not in violation of city ordinances as two of the four occupants are brothers. Regarding the first floor, the tenants have committed to leave the apartment at the end of July, a reduction in the lease term. Our attorney advised that a court process would likely have resulted in a similar departure timeline. Regarding the second floor, the tenants have committed to leave the apartment at the end of May, also a reduction in the lease term. They have told me that they are already moving out, and have allowed us to show the apartment to potential new tenants. We will, of course, endeavor to remain in compliance with city ordinances. Thanks for your help in this matter. City of Salem restricts more than three unrelated individuals living in one unit. Furthermore a rooming house would require a License and have sprinkler requirements. Per the State Building Code 780 CMR, section 115.6, you are directed to contact this office within 10 days upon receipt of this letter to arrange for an inspection of the property. Please have all areas available for inspection. If you feel you are aggrieved by this order, your appeal is through the Board of Building Regulations and Standards in Boston.
