Fire Investigator Scott Herbert, Salem Fire Department, called us. Investigator Herbertidentified the origin of the fire as being located in the basement bedroom. Investigator Herbert suspected the unit was illegal and called Mr. Rochon and myself to confirm. The determination was made that the unit was constructed illegally and had several building code, electrical, plumbing and zoning violations. i Because of damage to the building, electrical system, the power was cut at the street. Because the power and the fire alarm system are off, the building cannot be occupied and is considered an unsafe structure 780 CMR Section 121. The power to the building can only be reconnected after the proper permits, repairs and inspections have been completed. If further information is required, please contact me directly.
