I am now in the process of selling that same unit. In doing so, I have found out that I need extensive work on hardwiring the smoke detectors and even adding some additional ones. To my understanding, this was a requirement back in 2004 also; however, for some reason, a fire certificate was granted. Now that I am trying to sell my unit, I am having trouble receiving said certificate due to the work described above. I am concerned and would like an explanation as to why I purchased a condominium unit which should not have passed inspection due to the fire regulations, which were not satisfactory. In addition, the Unit below has been sold and bought twice after 2004 and has never had a problem with obtaining a certificate. Please tell me why my Unit is. { In addition, I have received insufficient services from City of Salem's inspectors. An inspector came to the condominium today and carried a very negative attitude. As a representative of the City of Salem, I would think and hope that the inspectors you hire would at the very least present in a positive helpful manner. The level of professionalism is disappointing as a citizen and tax payer of the City or Salem. Thank you for taking the time to consider my thoughts and feelings towards the recent services I have received. A rapid response would be greatly appreciated. To continue to overlook past mistakes however would not be in the best interest of the citizens of Salem. Inspector Larrabee should be commended for doing his job and taking action on issues wherever he may find them. Fire codes have been enacted for your safety as well as all those that will continue to reside in and around your building. To my understanding you did not meet my inspector, Dean Larrabee, therefore I do not know how you found he "carried a negative attitude."He was however thanked several times by your representative for waiting an extra ten minutes because she was running late. Personalities do not always mesh but Inspector Larrabee is a conscientious and dedicated employee who we are proud to have on our team. I am sure this has come as an inconvenience to you but please believe me, it is never our intention to hold up a sale. It is our mission to see that the codes enacted in the Commonwealth are enforced to the best of our ability. Your comments and thoughts are important and we will work to see that all inspectors enforce these codes uniformly. Sincerely, David W.
