Dear Sir or Madam:
This office has received complaints regarding the condition of your pool located in the rear yard of 17
Valley Street.
Your pool is not being utilized or maintained. The cover appears to have collapsed into the pool,and the
filter does not appear to be working. The water in the pool is not being circulated or disinfected. These
conditions create an ideal breeding area for mosquitoes. Please take proper steps to alleviate this problem
temporarily by adding chlorine to the water that is in the pool and rapidly stirring the water. By doing this
weekly,you will be able to destroy the ability for mosquitoes to breed on the water. This however is only
temporary. A long-term plan would include properly attaching the pool cover if it is not torn or in disrepair
or taking down the structure entirely. Please send to this office by July 31,2026,a written plan that
explains how you will be correcting this situation. The written plan should include how the pool will be
maintained(install proper cover,etc.)or how the pool will be drained and removed. Also include the time
frame for such actions(two weeks,one month).
You are ordered to take positive action to remove this nuisance in accordance with Mass General
Laws chapter 111 section 123,and to notify this department by July 31,2026,of that action.
Failure on your part to comply within the specified time will result in a complaint being sought
against you in Salem District Court.
Should you be aggrieved by this order,you have the right to request a hearing before the Board of Health.
A request for a hearing must be received in writing in the office of the Board of Health within 7 days of
receipt of this order. At said hearing,you will be given an opportunity to be heard and to present witness
and documentary evidence as to why this order should be modified or withdrawn. You may be represented
by an attorney. Please also be informed that you have the right to inspect and obtain copies of all relevant
inspection or investigation reports,orders,and other documentary information in the possession of this
Board,and that any adverse party has the right to be present during the hearing.

To whom it may concern:
I, the owner of 17 Valley Street, Salem,'MA have received a complaint that my pool is not
circulating and potentially is causing mosquito breeding. I am writing to inform you that I
am draining the pool for repair. There will be no standing water. I apologize for this
situation as I have breast cancer, and I am in the middle of surgery and treatment.
also wanted to let you know that my son, who lives on the property as well, is a licensed
pest control agent and has been treating the standing water so that no mosquitos can
breed in the standing water.
I have attached a copy of the license as well.
