It appears that significant-changes-have been made in the layout of the proposed units subsequent to the ori- ginal assignment of numbers. In addition, the Building Inspector has been supplied with a renumbering of the units without the consultation or clearance of this office. Section 26-5 of the City of Salem's Code of Ordinances specifically assigns the authority to assign street numbers solely to the Board of Assessors. This situation causes particular concern since the renumbering appears to lack any sequential basis which would address the public safety requirements of the appropriate City departments, in particular those of the Fire Department.
