Dear Mr. Strauss,
At a recent visit to your property at Franklin Street I observed a drain line
discharging water over the city sidewalk into Franklin Street
This is a violation of the Salem City Ordinances Section 38-18
You are hereby ordered to remove said drain and cease the discharge of water within 7 days
of receipt of this notice. Failure to do so may result in further action including the filing of
complaints in District Court.

Dear Mr. Barbeau:
I write to update you on our progress at 47 Franklin Street.
As you know, in response to tenants we were evicting, your office visited 47 Franklin and
identified items that required our attention. Specifically, you expressed concern about the
kitchen in the basement, loose tiles on the parquet floor,the wood side-porch invading
the set back, possible water infiltration through inadequate caulking or masonry on the
side, the bathroom not having GFCI protection, and asbestos in the basement. Here is
what has occurred since your visit:
1: 'The kitchen has been moved from the basement to the first floor of the building.
Permits were obtained for the elecfrical and plumbing work.
2. The parquet floor has been fully repaired.
3. A permit has been obtained from your office to replace the side-porch so that it
meets zoning and building code. We expect the masonry contractor to finish this
work this fall.
4. The same masonry contractor has examined the lentils and caulking. He believes
these elements are fine, but he will examine them more closely when he replaces
the side-porch.
5. The bathroom now has GCFI protection(as does the kitchen).
6. The asbestos has been removed.
While your office did not visit the adjoining apartment at 45 Franklin Street, items 1, 4, 5,
and 6 were addressed for that unit as well.
We have also addressed all of the concerns raised by Public Health and obtained a new
certificate of fitness.
