At its meeting on December 16, 2004, the Planning Board voted to recommend as follows on the
proposed amendment to the zoning ordinance:
1. To see if the City Council will amend the Salem Zoning By-Laws by rezoning the parcels
fronting on Chestnut Street (Map 25 Parcels, 215,216, 217, 218, 219, 220, 221, 222, 223,
224, 225, 239, 240, 241, 242, 243, 244, 245, 246, 247, 415, 416, 424, 425, 426, 427, 430, 431,
440, 441, 442, 443, 444, 560, 561, 562, 563 and Map 26 Parcels 465, 478, 479, 480, 481) from
Residential Two Family (R2) to Residential One Family (RI).
■ Voted seven in favor, none opposed (7-0) to recommend approval of the proposed
zoning ordinance amendment in order to preserve the unique historic treasure that is
Chestnut Street. The Board noted that the zoning amendment is for the greater
good and that the purpose is to protect Chestnut Street as a whole because the
homes collectively are unique and a jewel of the City's heritage.
