RE: Illegal Signage(168 Essex Street—Village Tavern)
Mr. Ingemi:
I am writing to inform you that you that the "Signage Cart' that you locate on the Essex Street pedestrian walkway(see
attached photo),has not received the necessary approvals from the Salem Redevelopment Authority(SRA)or permits
from the City of Salem; therefore, the cart is currently in violation of regulations set forth by both the SRA and City of
Salem.
Your property is located in the Urban Renewal Area. All signs erected in the Urban Renewal Area are required to
receive approval from the Design Review Board(DRB) and the SRA. Following this review process, you are to receive
a City of Salem Sign Permit issued by the City Building Inspector prior to erecting your sign.
We are requiring that you immediately remove the unpermitted signage cart from the Essex Street pedestrian mall
walkway and initiate the process of applying for permission to display them. Failure to do so may result in further
actions being brought against you, up to and including the issuance of Municipal tickets or filing of criminal complaints
at District Court. You have the right to appeal this order to the City of Salem Board of Appeals.
Please contact Kathryn Newhall-Smith at 978-619-5685 to initiate the process of applying to the City and DRB for your
signage,or to ask any questions. We look forward to helping you come into compliance with the Salem Redevelopment
Authority and City of Salem regulations.
