Dear Sir/Madam,
The Salem Board of Health has received a complaint about people urinating in the
elevator at 45 Traders Way in Building 70. According to the complaint, an individual who
lives in the building has been urinating in the elevator for most of the year.
On December 30, 2025, an inspector, Jeffrey Barosy, investigated the elevator. At the
time of inspection, the inspector did not see or smell urine in the elevator at Building 70.
The inspector observed staining from a liquid below the control panel and particles from
either cotton cloths or paper towels above the control panel on the elevator control
panel's wall.
Please be aware, in the event of someone contaminating any common areas within the
property, it is the property owner's and property manager's responsibility to properly
clean and disinfect the affected areas to comply with 105 CMR 410.000: Minimum
Standards of Fitness for Human Habitation.
If there is an issue with an individual consistently urinating in the elevator, the inspector
advises the property owner and property manager to contact the City of Salem Police
Department to help deal with the individual.
No further action taken.
