Dear Jeffrey:
The New England Power Company, d/b/a National Grid, ("National Grid") acknowledges
receipt of the above-referenced citations regarding a 55-gallon drum (the"Drum")
discovered on its property at 31 Horton Street in the City(the "Property").
National Grid wants to emphasize that it was essentially an "innocent landowner"in this
matter—the Drum was apparently placed on the Property by a trespasser, without National
Grid's knowledge or consent; further, upon receiving notice of its existence, National Grid
expeditiously retained a waste contractor to properly dispose of it but it had already been
removed from the Property. The foregoing notwithstanding, National Grid is not challenging
the issuance of the citations or the amount of the fine that the City is ultimately imposing.
Please find enclosed the check for payment of the fines. Let me know if you require any
additional information on this matter.
