Dear Mr. Crowley:
This department was notified by Salem Fire Department of an illegal basement apartment
at your above mentioned property.
The unit was constructed without any permits and does not meet the Massachusetts State
Building Code requirements for light, ventilation, unit separation, required egresses both
in exit doors and egress windows.
You are directed to empty this unit immediately. Failure to comply with this order will
result in tickets being issued daily and a complaint being filed in Salem District Court.
After the unit is emptied,you are directed to obtain plumbing and electrical permits to
remove this unit.
