Subject: Rating of Carpet
The Cogswell Condominium
Five School Street, Salem, MA
Ladies and Gentlemen:
This letter will respond to Mr. Santo's recent request of Mr. Gauthier for
written confirmation of the fire rating for the carpeting utilized in the
corridors, stairwells and dwelling units of The Cogswell Condominium.
The material in question consists of 100% nylon goods, weighing
approximately 42 ounces, manufactured by Philadelphia Carpet Co., Type
#17357, Style #SP 77. In the corridor and stairwells, it is glued directly to
the slab or treads, without a pad. In the units, it is laid over a foam pad.
The test data on the carpet as related to me is as follows:
o ASTM E84 Tunnel Test results: Flamespread:30; Fuel Contribution:
20; Smoke Density: 155.
o NBS Smoke Density Test results: 247.
o Critical Radiant Flux greater than 1.00 watts per square centimeter.
o FHA and HUD approved.
o Rating: Class "B".
Based upon conversations with the carpeting subcontractor, it is my under-
standing that this material has been satisfactorily tested and complies with
all Code requirements as installed at The Cogswell Condominium. Please
advise if you require any aditional information in this matter.
