Dear Mr . McIntosh:
We the undersigned owners and residents in the Federal
Street area have been informed that on or about January
9 , 1985 a building permit was issued by your office in connection
with the proposed conversion of the above property from
a single family dwelling to a two family dwelling.
While we understand that the property is located in
an area which is zoned two-family as a matter of use, we
nevertheless feel that the proposed conversion would be
in violation of the Salem Zoning Ordinance in that there
would appear to be less than 7, 500 square feet of lot for
each of the proposed dwelling units , and also, that there
does not appear to be space for the requisite three off-street
parking spaces, each having direct access to Federal Street.
Thus , we feel that before a building permit can be
issued in connection with the proposed conversion, the owners
must obtain either a variance or a special permit.
Pursuant to Section 7 of Chapter 40A of the Massachusetts
General Laws , we are hereby formally requesting that you
immediately revoke the outstanding permit, and issue a stop
work order immediately for all work pursuant thereto, pending
the owners ' obtaining either a special permit or a variance
from the Board of Appeals for the proposed conversion, as
the case may be.
