Subject: Confirmation of Requested Revisions
Cogswell Residences
Renovations to No. 5 School Street, Salem, MA
Dear Bill:
This letter is in response to your request made during our telephone
conversation yesterday regarding our recent submission covered by my
earlier letter to you of 25 June 1987.
Revisions to "Permit Set"
You requested confirmation of the following revisions to be made to our
drawings for the above-noted project:
o Emergence Light and Exit Sign locations, previously agreed to in
discussions with Captain Turner and annotated by electrician Kerry
Conner on our prints on file, will also be depicted on our plans:
o Self-closing Hinges will be called out on the schedule for all unit
entry doors:
o ;Mechanical Ventilation, per Code. will be required for all bathrooms:
o Ducted Makeup Air will be provided to all utility closets for the
mechanical equipment located therein:

o Ship s Ladders to the roof decks will be deleted and satisfactory
alternate access will be provided;
o Conventional Stairsteps will be provided beneath the roof skylights
as as egressway, in lieu of the steeper ladder-like elements shown:
o Acoustical Insulation, probably a layer of "Deciban" sheathing, will
be added to Partition Type #5, for use on demising walls between
units:
o Fire Separation of unit demising walls will be confirmed to extend
continuously from the basement slab to the roof sheathing in the
attic:
o Bedroom Skylights will be confirmed to be manually operable and
shall have a 4 inch minimum curb (per Code Section 925.;.3);
o Replacement Windows will be fitted with insulating glass and shall
conform to the provisions of the Energy Code required for the project;
o Trash Rooms shall be sprinklered;
o Vent Stacks at Roof shall be either 2 feet high or 10 feet away from
skylights;
Supplemental Drawings
Also per your request, we will forward one "Permit Set' of our drawings,
reflecting the afforementioned revisions, as soon as they are completed.
Subsequent Submission
In addition, we understand that you will require a separate submission at a
later date concerning the fire ratings of carpets to be utilized in the building.
We will do so during early in the construction process, after carpeting is
selected but before it is installed.

as for your w=illingness to issue the general building permit to my client upon
receipt of this letter. We appreciate your responsiveness to the scheduling
