LTR RE 4 UNIT BLDG, <50% January 30, 2019 Tom St Pierre Building Commissioner Inspectional Services 93 Washington Street Salem, MA 01970 RE: 8 Gardner Street, Salem, MA Renovations to a 4 Family Reference 2015 IEBC, 2015 IEBC with Mass State Amendments Dear Tom, Being the Architect of Record for the renovations to the existing 4 family building located at 8 Gardner Street in Salem, MA, we have reviewed the Building Code to determine that the renovations are under the 50% requirement for Level 2 renovations under the Prescriptive Code Method, therefore a sprinkler system is not required for the project. Under the 2015 IEBC, Section 8, our extent of renovations falls under Level 2 construction and under the MA State Amendment 804.2.2, it is our understanding the work area of the building renovations are under 50%and do not required sprinkler systems.
