Design Review of Entrance Corridor Project Signage
Meeting Date: June 25, 2025

At a regular meeting of the Design Review Board (DRB), upon a motion duly made and seconded, it was
unanimously voted to acknowledge review and discussion of the sign package for 266 Canal Street as per the
Planning Board Planned Unit Development (PUD) decision requirement. The proposed signage package includes
two ‘LORE’ wall signs, a wayfinding monument sign, five building ID wall signs, and two leasing banners.

1. Plan set titled ‘266 Canal Street project Permanent Signage and Marketing Banners Design Review Board
Submission’, prepared by Criterion Development Partners for Lore, 266 Canal Street, Salem, MA 01970
dated May 8, 2025.
Comments
1. Wayfinding Monument Sign: The DRB suggested number placement adjustment on the proposed
wayfinding monument sign. Moving the numbers slightly to the right of their current placement will
improve alignment with the outside of the letter ‘E’ in LORE at the top of the sign.
2. Sign Trim: The DRB suggested some consideration of different sign trim color options rather than the
proposed gold trim. One trim suggestion was wood in place of gold. The applicant reiterated that the gold
is part of the branding for the project.
3. Leasing Banners: The DRB recognized that the ZBA had granted relief for the leasing banners with
understanding that the banners will come down after two years. The DRB suggested looking at other
colors for the leasing banners.
