RE: 7'/ Pleasant Street
Dear Ms. Hart:
On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, the City of Salem conducted a required inspection of your
property located at 7Y2 Pleasant Street. Present during the inspection were, Tom St. Pierre
and Voula Orfanos of the Building Department, Lt. Peter Schaeublin of the Salem Fire
Department, John Giardi, City Electrician, Sgt. Sean Andrus and Officer Ryan Arundel of the
Salem Police Department and David Greenbaum, Health Agent for the Salem Board of
Health.
During this inspection several conditions in the home were identified that could materially
impair the health and safety of the occupants, including but not limited to:
• The home is severely hoarded.
• The ceilings throughout the home are collapsing.Plea
• The light fixture in the 2"d floor bathroom is in disrepair.
• There is severe water damage on the ceilings.
• There are broken/missing windows in the attic.
• The front porch is in disrepair.
During the inspection the following items were discussed as needing immediate attention:
• The Building Commissioner is requiring the windows in the attic be repaired/replaced
or sealed closed.
• A licensed contractor must inspect the front porch, apply for a permit and repair as
needed.
• The Fire Marshall is requiring all egress ways be free and clear of obstruction.
• The.Health Agent is requiring the area around the front door be cleared and
maintained free of obstruction.
• The bathrooms be clear and usable.
• The City Electrician is requiring the light fixture in the 2"d floor bathroom to be repaired
or replaced.
At the time of inspection, the Fire Marshall installed smoke/carbon monoxide detectors for
your safety.
Additionally, it was discussed that while the house was considered unsafe and you worked to
bring the property into compliance you stated that you would be staying with your friend,
Elaine Crofts, at her home in Beverly, the City believes this is the best thing for your safety.
Lastly, it was agreed that a,re-inspection of the property would be conducted on Monday,
April 3, 2023 to assess for compliance.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should"you have any questions regarding this matter.
Sin erely,
David Greenba
